Samyang has officially announced the 135mm f/2 ED UMC telephoto prime lens along with the 135mm T2.2 VDSLR ED UMC cine version for multiple camera mounts.

Since the end of 2014, Samyang has been teasing the launch of a new telephoto lens with a focal length consisting of three odd numbers. The whole world is still waiting for Samyang to introduce its first lens that supports autofocus technology. This feat is quite hard to achieve, so the company is still focusing on its plans to release cheaper alternatives to existing lenses made by Canon, Nikon, Sony, and others, as well as on its cine optic line-up.

The brand new Samyang 135mm f/2 ED UMC lens can cover full frame sensors and it is compatible with 10 lens mounts, says the manufacturer, such as Canon EF, Canon EOS M, Nikon F, Sony E, Sony A, Fujifilm X, Pentax K, Samsung NX, Micro Four Thirds, and Four Thirds.

The telephoto lens comes with a very bright circular aperture of f/2 made out of nine blades, an Extra Low Dispersion element, and Ultra Multi Coating to cut down optical flaws, such as chromatic aberration, ghosting, and flare.

Additionally, the design of the lens is a floating one, which means that image quality increases while distortion and spherical aberration decrease. Its minimum focusing distance stands at 80 centimeters.

Samyang 135mm f/2 ED UMC lens measures 82mm in diameter and comes with a 77mm filter thread. The product’s weight is between 815 grams and 880 grams, depending on the mount.

The release date and price of this telephoto prime lens are unknown for the time being. However, the product should be released in the coming weeks with an affordable price tag.

The cine version is called Samyang 135mm T2.2 VDSLR ED UMC and it comes with a similar design when compared to the photographer’s version.

The company says that this model has been optimized for videography by offering an uncoupled aperture and focus gear ring, allowing users to change the aperture as well as the focus in a smooth and quiet manner.

Samyang’s optic comes with markers for the distance scale and the aperture on its both sides, therefore videographers will be able to see the settings at all times.

Samyang 135mm T2.2 VDSLR ED UMC lens will be released in the same 10 mounts as its photography counterpart. The exact availability details are also unknown, so you will have to stay tuned to Camyx to find the details out!

Update: It is official now! The photography version will retail for $549 and the cine version will cost $599.
