Sony RX10 bridge camera bridges the gap between RX1 and RX100

Sony has bridged the gap between the RX1 and RX100 cameras with the help of a bridge camera called RX10.

Photographers have asked Sony to release a camera between the RX1 and RX100, as the difference between the two is simply too big.

The company has been rumored to launch a so-called RX10 with an APS-C sensor for quite a while. However, the camera’s time has come only now and it does not have an APS-C sensor, as users would have wanted, with Sony choosing to add the same RX100 II version into it.

Sony launches RX10 camera with 1-inch-type sensor and 24-200mm f/2.8 lens

Sony RX10 is now official and it features a 1-inch-type backlit CMOS sensor that is also found in the RX100 II.

The sensor is capable of capturing photos at 20.2 megapixels through a 8.8-73.3mm lens, which provides a 35mm equivalent of 24-200mm.

An important feature of the lens is its uncanny ability to maintain a constant maximum aperture of f/2.8 through the entire focal length coverage.

Viewfinder, body design and type make the Sony RX10 a bridge camera

Usually, bridge cameras have a bigger zoom. However, the shape, size, and the presence of an electronic viewfinder turn it into a decent bridge shooter.

The Sony RX10 features a built-in 1.44-million-dot OLED electronic viewfinder, allowing users to frame photos just like professionals.

Nevertheless, the 3-inch tilting LCD screen can also be used in Live View mode.

BIONZ X processing engine, just like the A7 and A7R NEX-FF shooters

The specs list of the RX10 continues with a BIONZ X image processor, which can be found in the new A7 and A7R E-mount full frame cameras.

Sony’s new bridge shooter comes with Contrast Detection AF technology as well as new Direct Drive SSM system to provide quick and smooth autofocus.

The company’s subject tracking AF system is said to work pretty smooth and the improved Eye AF promises to keep the subject’s eyes in focus.

The shooting capabilities of the Sony RX10 are pretty extensive. The camera captures 1920 x 1080 videos at 60fps or 24fps, depending on preferences.

Users can attach external microphones for superior audio quality or connect the camera to an external recorder. While continuous autofocus is in use, the high-zoom device can shoot up to 10fps.

Built-in OIS, high ISO, and flash to light up poorly-lit environments

Sony has added a built-in optical image stabilization system, which comes in handy when shooting at the longer end of the focal range.

Thankfully, the RX10 shoots RAW images and it should help photogs in low-light environments with the help of a maximum 12,800 ISO sensitivity or the built-in flash.

As for the shutter speed, the fastest setting is 1/3200, while the slowest is 30 seconds.

Sony RX10 release date and price

Sony RX10 comes packed with both WiFi and NFC, allowing iPhone and Android users to connect their smartphones and tablets to their camera for various reasons.

The shooter measures 5.08 x 3.46 x 4.02-inch and weighs 28.68 grams. The Japan-based manufacturer will release the new bridge camera by the end of November for a price of $1,299.99.
