Ricoh has announced the rumored HD Pentax D FA 70-200mm f/2.8ED DC AW lens, which has been designed for the upcoming Pentax full frame DSLR camera.

After confirming that it will release a Pentax-branded DSLR with a full frame image sensor in 2015, Ricoh has introduced a first lens for this type of camera.

The HD Pentax D FA 70-200mm f/2.8ED DC AW lens will be compatible with current and future K-mount DSLRs, including those with APS-C sensors, even though it has been designed to cover full frame sensors.

Ricoh says that this telephoto zoom lens offers “state-of-the-art optical technology” and that it will be released on the market in the near future.

This new telephoto zoom lens will be a part of the company’s high-performance Star-series of optics, which will deliver high image quality and edge-to-edge sharpness.

It covers full frame sensors, so it will be perfect for the upcoming Pentax-branded K-mount DSLR. However, it can be mounted on APS-C K-mount cameras, too, and it will provide a 35mm focal length equivalent of 107-307mm.

Ricoh says that the HD Pentax D FA 70-200mm f/2.8ED DC AW lens is aimed at portrait and sports photographers. Its bright, constant maximum aperture of f/2.8 ensures that the subject will be separated from the foreground and background, which is helpful in portraiture and action photography.

Moreover, the fast aperture makes sure that photographers can use quick shutter speeds, so that subjects still look great even in challenging lighting conditions.

The lens comes packed with Quick-Shift Focus system, allowing users to switch to manual focus after the camera has already autofocused on the subject. The AF drive is a Direct Current motor, that is meant to offer silent autofocusing.

Ricoh will release the new Pentax 70-200mm f/2.8 telephoto zoom lens this March

The HD Pentax D FA 70-200mm f/2.8ED DC AW lens features a brand new Aero Bright Coating II, which uses nanotechnology in order to reduce reflections, hence cutting down flare and ghosting.

The Aero Bright Coating II is used in combination with the multi-layer HD coating to decrease flare and ghosting even further in extreme backlight conditions.

Its internal design includes a pair of Extra-Low Dispersion (ED) elements and a couple of Super ED elements, which will reduce chromatic aberration and will increase image sharpness.

As expected from a Pentax lens, the new 70-200mm f/2.8 is an all-weather model. This weather-resistant optic makes sure that dust and water will not get into a camera.

Ricoh will begin selling the HD Pentax D FA 70-200mm f/2.8ED DC AW lens this March for a price of $2,299.95.
