Official: Olympus 8mm f/1.8 fisheye PRO lens coming this summer

Olympus has officially announced the development of the M.Zuiko Digital ED 8mm f/1.8 Fisheye PRO lens, which is scheduled to be released on the market sometime during the summer of 2015.

The new OM-D E-M5 Mark II mirrorless camera and the M.Zuiko Digital ED 14-150mm f/4-5.6 II all-round zoom lens have been revealed by Olympus.

The company continues its product launch event with the official announcement of M.Zuiko Digital ED 8mm f/1.8 Fisheye PRO lens’ development.

This is the fifth PRO-designated optic in the company’s line-up, after the 12-40mm f/2.8, 40-150mm f/2.8, 7-14mm f/2.8, and 300mm f/4 models.

Olympus announces the development of the M.Zuiko Digital ED 8mm f/1.8 Fisheye PRO lens

Olympus has confirmed that it will release another high-performance PRO-series lens for Micro Four Thirds cameras in the near future.

The Olympus 8mm f/1.8 fisheye PRO lens is in development, the company has revealed in a press release. A mock-up of the optic is also expected to be on-display at the CP+ Camera & Photo Imaging Show 2015, which opens its doors on February 12.

Just like all other PRO-grade optics, the M.Zuiko Digital ED 8mm f/1.8 Fisheye will be released in a black color and it will be weathersealed.

The dustproof and splashproof construction will be joined by a special case, which will be meant to be used alongside the E-M5 Mark II camera and PT-EP13 waterproof case. This way, photographers will be able to take photos using this kit at depths down to 45 meters.

The new ultra-wide-angle optic will provide a 35mm focal length equivalent of 16mm when mounted on Micro Four Thirds cameras. Like other MFT lenses, it will be compatible with all MFT cameras.

Although an exact release date has not been mentioned, the manufacturer promises that the lens will become available this summer. Its price tag will be announced sometime in the following months.

So far, the 12-40mm f/2.8 and the 40-150mm f/2.8 PRO lenses are available on the market, while the 7-14mm f/2.8 will be released this summer. Meanwhile, the launch date of the 300mm f/4 super-telephoto optic remains unknown.
