Sony A9 is an A-mount camera and is coming on April 23, source says

The rumor mill is reporting that the Sony A9 is an A-mount camera with a 50-megapixel full frame sensor, which will be announced on April 23 at the 2015 World Photography Awards in London.

There is another twist in the April 23 event held by Sony at the Somerset House in London and in the company’s 50-megapixel camera. A new source is claiming that the 2015 World Photography Awards show will host the announcement of the PlayStation maker’s full frame camera with a 50-megapixel sensor. Moreover, it seems like the product in question is actually an A9 camera that will become the flagship A-mount unit, claiming the crown from the A99.

Sony A99
This is the current flagship A-mount camera: Sony A99. Its title may go to the Sony A9, which is a 50-megapixel shooter coming on April 23.

Sony A9 is a 50-megapixel A-mount camera that will be announced on April 23

For a very long time, it has been said that the Sony A9 is a mirrorless camera aimed at professional photographers. The shooter was supposed to be an FE-mount unit placed above the A7R-series and to be unveiled sometime soon.

Shortly after that, a trusted source said that the A9 50MP woul not be revealed in the near future, but that it would hit the market by the end of 2015 as an FE-mount camera.

However, a new source is reporting a different thing. In fact, the Sony A9 is an A-mount camera and it does feature a 50-megapixel sensor in order to compete against the Canon 5DS and 5DS R DSLR cameras.

As the A99 is becoming a bit outdated, the A9 will replace it atop the A-mount line-up and will become the company’s flagship model. Furthermore, this model will become official on April 23 during the company’s press event at the 2015 World Photography Awards in London, UK.

Since it is competing against the 50.6-megapixel 5DS and 5DS R, the A9 will be priced similarly to these two models. Amazon is selling the EOS 5DS for $3,699 and the EOS 5DS R for $3,899.

Sony poised to introduced the Mark IV version of the RX100 at the same event

The same source has also had something to say about other products coming at the same event. It appears that previous speculation was wrong, as we will actually witness the introduction of the Sony RX100 Mark IV.

Although a lot of people have said that a Mark IV version of the RX100 would be pointless, it seems like this view is not shared by Sony.

Previous sources said that the manufacturer would launch an RX10 replacement, called RX20 or RX10 Mark II, or an RX1R successor, called RX2, that features a curved full frame sensor.

This information is unexpected, which only casts more doubt over Sony’s press event on April 23. With so many rumors circling around the web, the best thing is to take everything with a pinch of salt and to wait for more reliable details.
