Canon C500 Mark II coming soon with 8K support

Canon is allegedly working on a successor to the EOS C500 camcorder, most likely called EOS C500 Mark II, that will be capable of recording videos at 8K resolution.

At the end of 2011, Canon has introduced the Cinema EOS line-up courtesy of the EOS C300 camcorder. One year later, both the C100 and C500 camcorders have been unveiled alongside the 1D C DSLR.

The C100 has been replaced in 2014 by the C100 Mark II, while the C300 Mark II substituted the C300 in 2015. As one would expect, the Japanese company will replace the C500 in 2016 and it seems like it is all happening at the NAB Show 2016 this April.

Trusted sources have confirmed this, but they have more good news for potential buyers: the Canon C500 Mark II will record videos at 8K resolution.

Canon C500 Mark II rumored to be announced at NAB Show 2016 with 8K resolution support

We have heard a few times in the past that Canon is planning to release an 8K camcorder and that the C500 successor will be the one to bear such feature. Now, another source is claiming a similar thing, making videographers to become even more anxious about the near future of cinematography.

Canon’s EOS C500 records 4K videos, while its replacement is rumored to shoot 8K videos.

4K resolution has been around for a while, but it has somehow failed to become a familiar sight in consumer cameras until recently. This was not because consumers did not demand it – big companies simply took their time implementing it.

Things are finally starting to look better for video enthusiasts. However, 4K might not be the top norm for long, as there are plenty of talks regarding 8K cameras. As stated above, one of them is the Canon C500 Mark II and there are reasons to believe that even the 1D C Mark II will come packed with this ability.

Whereas the 1D C successor is slated for a 2017 launch, the C500 Mark II is coming out by the end of this year. On the other hand, the announcement event will take place at the National Associations of Broadcasters Show 2016 (NAB).

This year, the event is scheduled to begin on April 16 for press folks, while regular visitors can check out the latest videography products as of April 18. The exhibition will be located at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

As usual, some people will doubt the need for 8K resolution, while others will say that 4K is still to expensive, so 8K will cost even more. Let us know what do you think in the comments section below!
