Spooky landscape photography in “Brothers Grimm’s Homeland”

German-born photographer Kilian Schönberger haunts photography fans with a series of poignant landscape images, captured in rural areas of Middle Europe, the homeland of the Brothers Grimm fairy tales.

When a photographer reveals a photo project, the idea is to make those images unforgettable to the viewer. Usually, this happens when viewers are scared or intrigued by something and this is exactly the type of photography that you can find in Kilian Schönberger.

One of the many contributions to art of the German-born photographer is called “Brothers Grimm’s Homeland”. The reason for the naming is rather simple as the shots are captured in Germany, the home country of the haunting fairy tales written by the Brothers Grimm.

This is landscape photography at its absolute best, though some might say that it is easy to do it when Middle Europe’s rural areas look like this. However, we should remember that not all the people with a camera in the right place are photographers, as you also need vision with a dash of “genius”.

Colorblindness allows me to focus on image composition, says the photographer

Kilian Schönberger manages to impress the viewers and keep them asking for more photos. Additionally, this is even more impressive as he is doing it while having a condition that some say it prevents them to become good landscape photographers: colorblindness.

Thankfully, Kilian Schönberger has followed his passion and he is now living the dream. He says that not being able to separate some colors allows him to focus entirely on the composition. After taking a look at his shots, it is easy to notice that he is 100% right, as the composition is absolutely perfect.

Either way, the photographer has confirmed that he is asking his friends to take a look at the colors before publicizing a photo, just to make sure that everything is all right.

Getting back to Germany and its rural landscapes, they appear to be a match made in heaven. Some shots even contain distant figures who look like ghosts, so it is easy to understand why you would not want to be alone in these mountains.

Middle Europe is totally eerie when the fog has laid down over these landscapes, but we should consider ourselves lucky that Kilian Schönberger is the person behind the camera.
