The third weathersealed X-mount lens has been announced by Fujifilm at the Consumer Electronics Show 2015 as the XF 16-55mm f/2.8 R LM WR lens, which will be released in February.

When Fujifilm introduced its first weathersealed X-mount camera, called X-T1, the company has also confirmed that it would release three weathersealed lenses over the course of one year.

The XF 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR has been the first to become available and it has been followed by the XF 50-140mm f/2.8 R LM OIS WR.

The third model is the Fujifilm XF 16-55mm f/2.8 R LM WR lens, which has just been unveiled at CES 2015.

Fujifilm announces its third weathersealed X-mount lens at CES 2015: Fujinon XF 16-55mm f/2.8 R LM WR

Fuji’s latest weather-resistant zoom lens will offer a 35mm focal length equivalent of 24-84mm. The optic comes with a constant maximum aperture of f/2.8 throughout the zoom range, just like the 50-140mm version.

The product has no less than 14 sealing points, which make it resistant to dust, water droplets, and other environmental factors, allowing photographers to keep taking photos in harsh conditions.

The Fujifilm XF 16-55mm f/2.8 R LM WR lens covers wide-angle to medium-telephoto focal lengths, meaning that it is a versatile optic suitable for landscape, portrait, and more photography types.

Fujifilm XF 16-55mm f/2.8 R LM WR lens is a quick and quiet optic

The specs of this lens include a Twin Linear Motor to support 0.06-second autofocus speeds, Nano-GI coating that cuts down flare and ghosting, and silent operation so that photographers can use it in places where they need to be as quiet as possible.

The lens construction consists of nine aperture blades, which will deliver circular and beautiful bokeh, and 17 elements in 12 groups, including three aspherical elements and three ED elements.

Its minimum focusing distance stands at approximately 12 inches / 30 centimeters, while its minimum aperture sits at f/22.

Availability information

Fujifilm XF 16-55mm f/2.8 R LM WR lens measures 83mm in diameter and 106mm in length and its filter thread measures 77mm. The product weighs 655 grams / 1.44 lbs.

One thing worth noting is the lack of optical image stabilization. It has been rumored several times, while Fuji has also said it on one occasion, that the lens would employ built-in OIS. However, the 16-55mm f/2.8 does not offer such trait.

The manufacturer has confirmed that the product will be released on the market this February for $1,199.95.
