Nikon has taken the wraps off of Coolpix P900, a bridge camera with an 83x optical zoom lens and a Dual Detect image stabilization technology.

Alongside the D7200 DSLR, Nikon was expected to introduce the 1 J5 mirrorless camera and the Coolpix P900 bridge camera. However, only the latter has been announced and the former’s launch date remains unknown for now.

The new Nikon Coolpix P900 has been unveiled with set of attractive features for travel photographers, including an 83x optical zoom lens and built-in WiFi.

An 83x optical zoom lens is available in the Nikon Coolpix P900, allowing users to capture photos at a focal length equivalent of 2000mm.

Nikon has added a lens with one of the most extended zoom capabilities out of all bridge cameras currently available on the market. The Coolpix P900 features an 83x optical zoom lens, which offers a 35mm focal length equivalent of 24-2000mm. In addition, the camera offers 2x digital zoom, which means that it could offer a focal length equivalent of 4000mm.

Beside this impressive lens, the bridge camera features a 16-megapixel 1/2.3-inch-type CMOS sensor with a continuous shooting mode of up to 7fps and an ISO sensitivity range of 100-6400.

The system gets help from a Dual Detect Optical Vibration Reduction technology, which will keep things steady at telephoto focal lengths. According to the company, this system offers up to 5 stops of image stabilization.

The bridge camera is powered by an EXPEED C2 image processor. Additionally, it is worth noting that the lens comes with a maximum aperture of f/2.8-6.5.

Using WiFi and NFC, users can transfer files to their smartphone or tablet and take control over their shooter. Furthermore, the GPS functionality allows photographers to sort files by location and to tell exactly where a photo or video has been captured.

Speaking of videos, the Nikon Coolpix P900 is capable of capturing full HD videos at up to 60fp, while offering a high-speed video mode of up to 120fps.

Photos as well as videos can be composed using a built-in electronic viewfinder or a 3-inch articulated 921,000-dot LCD screen.

Nikon Coolpix P900 comes with a shutter speed range between 15 seconds and 1/4000th of a second. The bridge camera has a minimum focusing range of 50 centimeters, but it offers a macro focus range of only one centimeter.

This shooter also offers a timelapse video recording mode. It employs an SD/SDHC/SDXC card slot and USB 2.0 / HDMI ports. Its battery life stands at 360 shots on a single charge.

The camera weighs about 899 grams / 31.71 ounces and its dimensions are roughly 140 x 103 x 137mm / 5.51 x 4.06 x 5.39 inches.
