Olympus has officially announced the Stylus Tough TG-Tracker action camera, which records videos at 4K resolution and which comes packed with a myriad of sensors.

After many months of rumors, speculation, and leaks, the Olympus Stylus Tough TG-Tracker camera is here. Its name comes from the fact that it is a rugged shooter that can track a lot of things, thanks to its built-in sensors.

Among others, the device is capable of recording your location, altitude, or even temperature. It is quite feature packed and it seems like Olympus is finally serious about getting a bigger piece of the pie from the action camera’s market leader, GoPro.

Olympus Stylus Tough TG-Tracker features five sensors to track all sorts of data.

Both latitude and longitude are calculated using the GPS, while the temperature sensor can record the air and water temperature. The electronic compass is there to track the direction where the camera is pointed at, while both the water depth and altitude are measured by the barometer.

Finally, the accelerometer tracks the acceleration on three distinct axes. When shooting videos, users will have a Chapter function at their disposal. If the accelerometer detects sudden movement, then it will save those time of those movements as bookmarks for later review.

Overall, the Field Sensor System is a response to current-generation devices that can gather information. As people are getting more excited about analyzing data, they will be pleased to find plenty of it in their action camera.

Olympus Stylus Tough TG-Tracker can shoot 4K videos

The usual rugged features of the Stylus Tough series are present in the TG-Tracker. This shooter is waterproof down to 30 meters / 100 feet, dustprooft, shockproof to drops from 2.1 meters / 7 feet, weatherproof down to temperatures of -10 degrees Celsius / 14 degrees Fahrenheit, and crushproof to loads of 100kgf / 220 pounds of force.

Olympus Stylus Tough TG-Tracker captures 8-megapixel stills and 4K videos.

Its construction protects a 1/2.3-inch-type sensor that captures 4K videos and 8-megapixel stills. In order to process the 4K data, the Olympus Stylus Tough TG-Tracker has a TruePic VII engine, which also cuts down noise.

Users will find a prime lens with an angle of view of 204 degrees corresponding to approximately 13.9mm (full-frame equivalent). The aperture is fixed at f/2, while the thing above the lens is an LED headlight that is aimed at illuminating low-light environments, as we predicted.

An LCD screen sits on the side of the device. It can be tilted, so users can frame their shots from different positions. In order to stabilize their shots, photographers will be able to mount an SG-T01 grip, that is shipped alongside the camera, albeit the 5-axis electronic stabilization system will come in handy, too.
