Canon is allegedly working on a Panasonic GH4 competitor that is capable of recording 4K videos and consists of a new type of DSLR camera with a 1-inch-type image sensor.

One of the companies that will get very cozy with 4K resolution in 2015 is Canon. The company is expected to launch multiple cameras and camcorders that support such high video resolutions next year and the list continues to grow.

After hinting that the Canon XC10 is on its way, the rumor mill is now saying that another 4K camera is in development and that it will be released on the market in the following months in order to compete against the Panasonic GH4.

Panasonic GH4 could soon get a new competitor, as Canon is allegedly working on a new type of DSLR that records 4K videos.

New Canon DSLR model will capture 4K videos and will rival Panasonic’s GH4

The Panasonic GH4 has very few true competitors. The mirrorless camera with a Micro Four Thirds sensor is capable of shooting 4K videos. The Sony A7S can do so, too, but only with the help of an external recorder, which will cost users some more money.

The only other rival is the Samsung NX1, which was launched recently and which can capture 4K footage directly on its SD card. With that being said, Panasonic continues to draw most plaudits, while other makers are looking like they are not even trying to catch up.

However, Canon will reportedly launch a rival, which does not have a name, yet, but which will definitely record videos at 4K resolution. The camera will feature a 1-inch-type sensor, which is a bit smaller than the one found in the Micro Four Thirds camera.

The device in question is rumored to be a new type of DSLR that features a grip and a viewfinder, both of which can be removed. It is said that, even with these tools attached, the new Canon DSLR will be easy to transport, just like the GH4.

Canon will launch its GH4 competitor at NAB Show 2015 in April

The new Canon DSLR will fight against the Panasonic GH4 and will be unveiled at the National Association of Broadcasters Show 2015, according to top sources. The event will take place in April 2015 and it should also house the launch of the Mark II versions of the Canon C300 and C500.

If the device becomes a reality, then it will be interesting to see what lens mount it will adopt. Canon is not offering interchangeable lens DSLR cameras with 1-inch-type sensors, so maybe this is the new mount that its representative spoke about at Photokina 2014.

More details should be revealed in he near future, so stick around to find out how this story unfolds!
