First Nikon D7200 specs leaked on the web

The specs of the sought-after Nikon D7200 have been leaked on the web and the rumor mill is claiming that the DSLR camera could also be called D9300.

Nikon introduced a replacement to the D7000 in February 2013. The D7100 has become official and has been said to be the “flagship” DX-format DSLR, albeit the old-but-still-kicking D300S was still available on the market.

During the first few months of 2014, the rumor mill has begun claiming that the D7100 successor would be introduced at the Photokina 2014 event. However, the world’s biggest digital imaging trade fair in the world has passed and the so-called D7200 has not been announced.

This does not mean that the company has cancelled its plans to launch such shooter. In fact, a source has revealed a list of possible specs of the DSLR, which will probably become official in early 2015.

The replacement of the Nikon D7100 DSLR camera will allegedly feature a new 24.7-megapixel DX-format sensor made by Sony and it could be called D7200 or D9300.

Preliminary Nikon D7200 specs list shows up online

The Nikon D7200 specs list is said to include a brand new 24.7-megapixel APS-C image sensor, which will be manufactured by Sony. Nikon has accustomed users of D7000 series with Sony-made sensors, so this will not be a novelty.

We can expect this sensor to come without an anti-aliasing filter, just like the one in the D7100. Additionally, it appears that the DSLR will be powered by an EXPEED 4b image processor, which will provide a continuous shooting mode of up to 8fps.

The speed of the burst mode will be increased to 10fps, when users attach an external grip to the camera. It is said that the D7200 will support full HD video capture and a high-speed mode of up to 120fps, but the DSLR will not record 4K videos.

New autofocus system allowing the DSLR to autofocus at f/10

Almost everything will be new into the Nikon D7200. Beside the novel sensor and processor, the DSLR will employ an Advanced Multi-CAM 3600DX focus module using 72 focus points.

The new focus unit will support TTL Phase Detection AF with fine-tuning. Additionally, 39 points out of the total of 72 will be cross-type and will support autofocus even at f/10 aperture seting.

The base ISO sensitivity will range between 100 and 12,600, but it can be expanded between 50 and 51,200 using built-in settings. However, the shutter speed range is unchanged from that of the  D7100, from a minimum speed of 30 seconds to a maximum speed of 1/8000th of a second.

Nikon will also put an optical viewfinder in the D7200, which will cover 100% of the frame.

The upcoming DX-format camera could be called Nikon D9300

As stated above, the DSLR could be named Nikon D9300. This name has been mentioned a couple of times before, but in the form of the D300S successor.

The leaked specs list does not sound like it would suit the D300S replacement, so the rumor mill is speculating once again that this series has been “killed” with the D7000 series taking its place.
