High-end Olympus E-M7 rumored to be announced this September

A new high-end Olympus OM-D camera is in the making and it will be announced in September, but not as the E-M5 replacement.

Sources have unearthed plenty of information about the next-generation Olympus OM-D cameras. At first it was believed that the E-M5 is getting replaced, but then it was said that this will not happen soon, as the next Olympus camera is an entry-level one, called E-M1.

Shortly after that, people familiar with the matter claimed that the E-M5 successor is actually on its way. Well, now it is time to change the statement once again, as the popular Micro Four Thirds shooter will definitely not be substituted this fall.

High-end Olympus E-M7 camera is rumored to be announced this September. However, it will not replace the OM-D E-M5, as previously believed, and it will fall in a higher-price category.

Olympus to announce high-end OM-D E-M7 camera on the second of September

According to inside sources, the higher-end Olympus E-M7 will be introduced during the second of September. Moreover, it will not act as a successor for the current OM-D E-M5, which still has a long life ahead.

It appears that the OM-D E-M7 will feature better specs and it will fall in a higher-price category. Although it will come packed with impressive hardware and quite possibly a bigger grip, the price may be a turn off for a lot of photographers.

Olympus E-M5 still has to fight against the newly-announced Panasonic GX7

The Olympus OM-D E-M5 body-only is currently available for $999 at Amazon. A discount is not offered, which is another proof that a replacement is out of the question.

Panasonic has just announced the Lumix GX7. It is a highly-praised shooter and it will have the same price as the E-M5. The camera can be pre-ordered at Amazon for $1,099.99 with a 14-42mm lens kit or $999.99 for the body-only version.

Olympus E-M7 to feature higher-end specs and a significantly bigger price tag

Both the Panasonic GX7 and Olympus E-M5 feature a 16-megapixel sensor, ISO sensitivity of up to 25,600, magnesium alloy body, built-in image stabilization technology, tilting touchscreen, and integrated electronic viewfinder.

The Lumix GX7 will probably consider the E-M5 as its main rival. Since both have great features, it remains to be seen what Olympus will add into the E-M7 to justify a higher price point.

The good thing is that we should hear more about it ahead of the camera’s announcement, which takes places in September, as stated above.
